Twenty years with Towns-Wadey: the scope changed, the trust remained

Network administration and a custom information system, then identity and websites, and today quiet care of the product websites for the Stowe and Kaystone development projects. The scope of the collaboration changed as the group's needs changed.

Starting point: an office that needed everything

The collaboration began in 2004 with the construction group Towns-Wadey, whose successor is today’s Interserve. It needed a complete digital backbone all at once: a logo, website and presentation materials, a system for managing company data, and IT and networking for several sites — server, email, backups, firewall, hardware.

Twenty years, varying scope

As times changed, so did what the company needed from [binary]:

  • 2004–2007: all of IT. Network and server administration, a custom information system, on-site visits. The typical setup of a company before the cloud.
  • 2012–2014: a new website. Once the infrastructure moved to specialised services, the main need was the company’s presentation — the interserve.cz website.
  • Since 2016: running project websites. The group carries out development projects under its own brands. [binary] looks after the projects’ product websites (Stowe, Kaystone) and the group’s domains and email — quietly, with minimal intervention.

Where the risks moved

In 2004 the biggest risk was the office server going down or data being lost. Today the risks lie elsewhere: website security and updates, valid certificates, reliable email and compliance with data protection rules. The work of recent years reflected this — a GDPR policy in 2018, migration of the websites to a new server with HTTPS in 2020, and a move to a new mail server in 2025.

Takeaways

A long collaboration doesn’t mean the same contract forever. The scope can shrink or grow depending on what the company needs — what matters is having someone who knows the whole environment and knows when it’s time to change something.
